Chief Minister of Uttarakhand
In 2012, Vijay Bahuguna became the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. His tenure as Chief Minister lasted until January 31, 2014. His government faced challenges, especially during the 2013 Uttarakhand floods. The disaster caused massive destruction, and the government was criticized for its response to the crisis. Due to this, he resigned, and Harish Rawat became the new Chief Minister.
Joining the BJP
In 2016, Vijay Bahuguna left the Indian National Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His sister, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, also joined BJP and became a cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government.
